WASHINGTON (AP) — The WWE Performance Center is being put online in its original location in Washington State, and the company says it will be able to train athletes in more than 120 sports including boxing, soccer, football, tennis and even surfing and golf.
The new facility will be built by a private company called The Center for Performance Innovation and Design and will open for use in the coming weeks.
It will be in the Washington state capital of Seattle and will be staffed by former NFL player and former NCAA basketball coach Jeff Cogen.
The facility is scheduled to open in December.
The wrestling and gymnastics programs have been the subject of several high-profile scandals over the years and have been hit with a lawsuit that has led to the suspension of the programs.
In 2016, two of the program’s stars, Becky Lynch and Nikki Bella, resigned amid allegations that they sexually harassed and assaulted a female gymnast.
In its announcement Monday, WWE said the new facility would bring its programming to more than 200 countries around the world.
The company says its main purpose will be to provide athletes with “the best possible training environments that meet the needs of the business, community and sports community.”WWE says it is the first high-performing sports training facility in the United States and that it will open to the public in November.
